HOW TO BECOME A CFP® Pro
1. EDUCATION
"The education requirement helps to provide the knowledge required to deliver professional, competent and ethical financial planning services to clients. There are two main parts to the requirement: completion of CFP Board-approved coursework, and a bachelor's degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university." (CFP Board)
The Brett Danko Fast Track CFP Certification Program fulfills the coursework required to take the CFP® exam. Our program includes 7 classes:
- FP101: General Principles
- FP102: Insurance
- FP103: Investments
- FP104: Income Tax
- FP105: Retirement
- FP106: Estate
- FP107: Capstone - Case Study
2. PASS THE EXAM
The CFP® exam is offered three times per year (March, July, and November) and tests your ability to apply financial planning knowledge to real-life situations. Test topics include the financial planning process and principles, insurance, tax planning, income and retirement planning, estate planning, risk management, and more.
The Brett Danko Live Review centers on application, analysis, and case evaluation through 35+ classroom hours and materials including 3,500+ questions on quizzes, mock exams, and case studies.
3. EXPERIENCE
The experience requirement prepares you to provide personal financial planning to the public as a CFP® professional. There are many ways to satisfy this requirement, and experience may be gained before or after you take the CFP® exam. Ultimately, you must complete 6,000 hours of professional experience related to the financial planning process, or 4,000 hours of apprenticeship experience that meets additional requirements.
4. ETHICS
From cfp.net
"The ethics requirement is an important step on your path to CFP® certification. You must commit to CFP Board to act as a fiduciary, which means acting in the best interests of the client at all times when providing financial advice — and commit to other high ethical and conduct standards. You'll need to disclose information about your background, and CFP Board will conduct a detailed background check."
